9-8-08 Top of Edgewood, down hill to Canada and back 55 Felt like would have a poor workout after getting to the 'minor' hill along Edgewood, but there was an unmistakable improvement going up the 'major' hill. HR kept mostly 147-151 to plateau, then 155-157 to the top. Speed up hill is like 2.6-3.1 mph.
9-10-08 Top of Edgewood, down hill to Canada and back 55 Had interview with Netseer in the morning. HR seemed higher than usual - easily would venture into the 160 range - but didn't feel it. Maybe because had some green tea beforehand. Kept in the 155ish range going up Edgewood. Speed seemed a tad faster going up - maybe ~3 more consistently. Didn't seem as arduous. Met very upbeat guy named Mike on the way back and discussed hear rate monitors.
9-12-08 Top of Edgewood, down hill to Canada and back 55 Kept HR under <= 160 the whole way up - even after plateau. Seemed like I was going faster up - almost always at least 3.1 mph. Saw a police car pull over a truck on the way back.

9-14-08 Riding around with Abby to Clifford and White Oaks School parks. 20 HR doesn't get as high when I ride with Abby even with the extra towing weight. More like 130ish
9-15-08 Top of Edgewood, down hill to Canada and back 47 HR around 150ish whole way...speed up first leg of edgewood definitely faster - like 3.5 vs. 2.7 when I started.
9-17-08 Top of Edgewood, down hill to Canada and back 45 Kept HR under <= 160 the whole way up - even after plateau. Unbelievably, going up first let of Edgewood HR was just over 150 and my speed was around 4! No doubt of an improvement whatsoever! AND, this trip took only 45 minutes. It has taken 55 minutes in the past. I am getting more comfortable going down hills faster, though. HR after 5 minutes was 109 - which also seems substantially lower than before.

9-22-08 Top of Edgewood, down hill to Canada and back 46 HR <= 160 whole ride. Speed up from 4.1-4.6 till plateau, 3.6-4.1 going up. Time to top of Edgewood 27 - 3 mins better than when I started. Today legs felt like limiting factor. Maybe because I did stretching first.

9-26-08 Top of Edgewood, down hill to Canada and back 46 Strong start. HR higher on avg today. Ventured into the 160's more often than usual. Speed at 4.1-4.4 till plateau, 3.8 going up. Warmer today. Not as much sleep as usual last night. Muscles not tired.

2-5-09 To PDI 48 Scott came over in the morning. Kitchen side door is shot. Light rain today. Abby got Papa Greg's oranges and we called to thank him.

Abby had me tie her hood - and made me tie it again for her satisfaction to be met else she'd just have mommy do it. GOT A FLAT, rear tire, in front of new appliance store near Toys 'R Us in the rain. Jenn had to get Abby out of bed.
2-7-09 BSF LM 78 ECR both ways. Used mountain bike. Rode tandem with Abby to White Oaks Park. On Sunday Abby and I went to the bike store to get liners installed in my road bike rims.
2-9-09 To PDI 52 26 minutes from home on mountain bike, and it was windy. Hard to make a case that the road bike is faster. Maybe something not right with the road bike. Installed air horn this morning and put on toe clip pedals.

2-19-09 To PDI 52 Stopped at Post Office to deliver 'Gas' first. First day with new pedals. Did Tangrams with Abby. Found another membership card in a locker. Abby asked me all about locker rooms.
2-20-09 To PDI 51 Fixed bike computer. Road bike was 25 each way give or take. Found keys along sidewalk near office. Found cheap earrings next to Kragen on the way home. Kenny got a very favorable cancer report. Lunch with Guido. Stayed late wrapping up system tap thing
2-24-09 To PDI 51 Reloaded peanut dispenser with peanuts despite wetness. What a mess, but glad I'm done. Packed up and labeled old Shimano shoes. Shipping was a bit more than I expected - $8. But did not put in the mail. Rainy yesterday and Saturday, so made effort to ride today going home early for BSF. Max's demo is tomorrow. Abby insisted on her bouncing on the bed thing, and I complied twice. Noticed rear tire held 100% of its air from 4 days ago. HR laying down is around 60 past couple of nights.

4-13-09 To PDI 51 Abby wanted to go to the Hiller Aviation Museum today, and when I said we couldn't go until Thursday decided to try and make our house into an aviation museum. Yesterday we made a baby carriage from wood and an old plastic basket.

5-4-09 To PDI 52 Overcast. Almost have the thumbaround trick presentable. Abby requested she sit on my lap while watching Curious George and it occurred to me there are some requests you just can never say no to. Tried out my new Teavana tea maker.
5-5-09 To PDI 52 Overcast, tiny amount of rain. Read Abby's 'Highlights' magazine to her while she sat on my lap. Really liked the part about her having to find little pictures all shown on the front page in the magazine.
5-6-09 To PDI 52 Muggy. Did experiment to see if it really was windy or just seemed that way. It just seemed that way. Scheduled a Penrose checkup. Talked to Mary @ Cigna in yet another chapter in the Federle saga.
5-8-09 To PDI 52 Yesterday, no ride, did Dr.'s checkup. And HW #1. Gorgeous day. Lots of good things happened. New windows arrived. Found out about John's super cool new arcade and got confirmation they are coming. Got my garbage pickup amount adjusted. Got a new Wells Fargo brokerage account setup appointment. Some guy on ECR didn't give me enough room though - honked at him.

5-20-09 To PDI 52 Back at work after legal thing and Texas trip. Alberto working on the back window. Ordered cooktop finally today. Dad called for B-day asking if I wanted a strobe bike light for b-day. Going to Sushi tonight. Yesterday did tinkertoys and basketball outside with Abby before BSF.
5-21-09 To PDI (trip #80) 52 Hopefully Alberto will finish interior of bedroom window today. Perfect weather again. Abby loves when I do the 'windmill' - spinning her around. Ate some cherry pie for breakfast that prompted Abby's request (and denial) to do the same. 'Swede' DW film fest watched today.
5-22-09 To PDI 54 Alberto did finish our master bedroom yesterday. Scott came this morning as well to work on stucco. Took Jenn's tryptoline pill which makes me groggy - slower getting to work.
5-26-09 To PDI 52 Had a long memorial day weekend; Abby's first bowling. Abby practiced her bike without training wheels. Lemonade stand. Didn't get window any painting done - windows all done but for stucco on the master bedroom. Watching 'Saving Grace' and 'The Young Ones'. Gorgeous weather today. Noticed my form on the shoulder/back weight machine is very poor.
5-27-09 To PDI 52 Warm-ish again. Fixed slow tub drain last night, only to find the shower backed up today! Max is back in the hospital! Garbagemen faithfully took away my huge pile including the windows.
5-29-09 To PDI 54 Beautiful day. I have a sort throat but hope it's just allergies. 'Towel guy' issue in the gym today. Did swinging in Fields' back yard with Abby last night. Dad is in Vegas bowling.

Got some decent Opus progress last night and this morning did a prototype of the dynamic keyword thing. Watched Dexter 3/1 last night. Jenn and Abby visiting Pokey. Saturday Abby and I went to Los Gatos and had a decent but not great time, though she sure loved her chocolate mousse. I wasn't blown away with the LED lighting product I saw down there.

6-17-09 To PDI 54 MTB today due to pump mishaps and Abby's misplacement of the presto adapter. Dropped dad's package at USPS but had to come home as forgot the bike light. Mainly a tail wind, but took much longer (29 mins) than normal. Last night found a $20 bill in front of Pizza Hut on my 2nd McDonalds? stop in as many nights. Lunch with Robin as he was studying a technical paper. Klipsch headphones supposedly were left at my house on Monday but I can't find them.
6-22-09 To PDI 54 First ride after needing to drive last week - Friday to see 'Moon' and Thursday to go to Intel for the fitness coach thing. Feels a bit boat-anchorish on the MTB. Went up to SF with Bret. Abby made (with Pokey's help) cobbler and a very tasty rice entry. We picked some more plums this morning - she loves doing it. But she tends to get carried away - when I tell her to hold it it's like she can't help herself and she keeps picking.
6-23-09 To PDI 53 More plum picking today. Abby really loves to do it, and again, she has to really try hard to resist picking more than she is told to. She likes climbing the ladder. She got just slightly miffed when one plum fell out of the tree onto her head. Ride felt just slightly boat-anchor-y today. Very warm and sunny. Finally got my missing Image headphones at home AND got the replacement pair at work.
6-24-09 To PDI 54 Showed Abby the new Monkey Lectric bike light Papa Greg sent me in the garage. Then I quickly read her the 'There are Cats in this Book' book. Warmish today. Discovered my hamstring / back of leg muscles are extraordinarily weak. Kevin asked me if I wanted a London GFX job. Emitted first SM4 last night.
6-26-09 To PDI 56 Talked to Mark - Dash born today! Mark moving to Vegas. Got a belt at Old Navy en route. Abby was throwing pillows. Did 5 reps of 185 BP.
6-29-09 To PDI 56 Came in early - at my desk after ride, workout, shower and breakfast by 9:30. Listed servers on eBay yesterday. Also yesterday went bowling with Abby, Pokey & Jenny; then had steaks. Abby was fascinated with all her new science and craft books. Today they're going to turn in their alpha beacon paperwork. Working on elimintating 'dread' thoughts. Saw stuck forklift outside cafe.
6-30-09 To PDI 54 Orna never called. Abby was doing ballet to the TV. She had a big visit to her school Alpha Beacon yesterday. Missed family movie night though, and she said "daddy missed out". If you spell out 3 letter words Abby will get many of them, which increases the difficulty in doing covert comms. Did 6 reps of 185 BP. Realized probably doing squat very incorrectly.
7-1-09 To PDI (trip 100) 56 Felt a bit fatigued. Pokey goes home today. Prepared package with Abby's dress. Supposed to be hot today but started off overcast. Watched the second half of 'Outland' last night. Re-routed the tuxes. Mother got into a panic just from a call I made to get Jenn's address for which I left no message.
7-2-09 To PDI 55 Felt a bit fatigued again but had record pull up - 11/12 @ 60. Tried doing lunges as shown in the book at the gym. Came home last night in time for a game of Zingo, reading of 'Where's my Mom' and the Bible reading. Per Abby's request showed her the Monkey Lectric light in the garage again. Big BBQ at DWA today.
7-6-09 To PDI 54 Dropped off servers at UPS store today, kind of hassled by UPS guy on custom form a bit. Abby went with; we got gas and bagels. On the way home I challenged her to tell me how to drive home, and she did great. 185 BP x6
7-7-09 To PDI 54 Crawled under RAV4 to figure out about Jeff's key. Did 11/10 pull-ups at 6/5. Still trying to do lunges 'by the book'. The Daddy hug with Abby has become a ritual almost. Watched a couple 'Flight of the Conchords' with Jenn. Jenn didn't care for 'The Hunt for Gollum'
7-8-09 To PDI 54 Talked to Jeff to plan trip. Another really nice day. Tried some kind of nectarine-like fruit. Abby could not be more pumped about the wedding trip - she was bouncing off the walls this morning.
7-14-09 To PDI 54 Dropped Jeff and John at SJC at 5:40am. Went back to sleep, rode in. Hot today - in 90s - but much more bearable than Dallas. Had some kind of Thai dish with ground meat. Went to Santa Cruz Boardwalk yesterday. Our coffee congregation area has been commandeered, but Bruce and I had our coffee on the windowsill.
7-15-09 To PDI 54 Adjusted my bike seat, but it worked loose en route. Conveniently it got bad outside the K-Mart, and I borrowed the wrenches for a quick repair. Grocery shopping last night. New Max project to start soon - though Max is not well.
7-16-09 To PDI 54 Nice day; bit cooler than the hot days from before. Some kind of event in the courtyard with a gorilla that made me think of DK. Teared up imagining an 'Arcade Fire' homemade video last night about M&D.

8-7-09 To PDI 52 Overcast. Had blueberry oatmeal. Tonight is Abby's Vacation Bible School concert. Did 13 pullups with 60 lb help (easy kind), then 7 (harder kind). Squats again, 75 lbs, 15 reps x2)

8-21-09 To PDI 52 Big day yesterday; went to the San Mateo County fair - had fun, though there were fewer rides this year, esp some Abby loved. Went to Riff Raff's version of 'Planet 9', got creampuffs afterwards. Fixed up the road bike's front looseness; all I did was clean it up and tighten it. Installed Airzound on the road bike using some parts I had in my old orange toolbox. Got a thorn in my front tire this morning; seems to be holding air though. Did 95 x 25, 205 x 4, 205 x 4 on BP.

Gave Jin a spot - he did 225 x 7. Dang. Had lovely dinner w/ Jenn at "Marguarita's", then watched Michael Palin's favorite Monty Python DVD

10-12-09 To PDI 55 Overcast. Likely showers this afternoon. More heavy rain this week, so risked it. Sold MBP today. Yesterday tried a different church where Abby was obsessed with a donut. Later did a quick Edgewood hike where we heard a Coyote and fed a couple of horses some apple. Today, ride in felt like a boat anchor (maybe because I used MTB?) - but lost 2 lbs over weekend (now at 217).

One boy in Abby's class is particularly interesting to her. Trying to train myself to, when faced with something that sounds hard and lots of work to not avoid it - because it might be easy, and is almost certainly easier than I think.
